After getting the interior taped and filleted it was time to flip the boat again to finish up the hull.

After some more fairing I fully glassed the bottom and lower panel.

 Then put the skeg together

At the same time I steam bent the bow trim

 Laminating them in place

 Also putting up the rudder blocks by putting them on a jig to make sure of distance and angle

Once in place everything was filleted. I also have decided to glass cloth the skeg for further protection.

Doing my filleting was made easier by being able to angle the boat \.

Pre-coating seat panels, but will be fairing out the hull before flipping again.

It was time to flip the boat. Using a couple of blocks hanging from the joists it went pretty easily. Now the filleting of the frames can be done easily by manipulating the angle of the boat while working on it.

Also have the Daggerboard and Rudder foils fairly well shaped using a belt sander for rough shape and finishing by hand.

And just a couple of more shots showing that the shop is getting a workout and the mess is building.

Getting the hull sealed up, little bit more and tape the bottom. I plan on fiberglassing the whole bottom but may have to wait on that as I think it would be safer to do with two. So probably after taping I will flip the boat and work on the inside.

Also getting started on the foils for rudder and daggerboard. Using solid wood for these;

Now comes the hours of filling, fairing and sanding.

Planking

Making some progress, have the lower and middle planks on both sides.

I did have to stop and make an adjustment on one of the middle planks. The original finger joints were loose and shifted while gluing putting the plank out of shape. Even if I could purchase another sheet to reproduce it, it would mean a 300 mile round trip so instead I patched in a piece of 6mm that I had. Was able to remake the correct shape.

Steamed

Finding ways of handling the 3+ meter stringers took a little work, but by the third one I had it down. I did have to switch ends of the poly tubing during the steaming since the most pronounced curves were at the bow and stern.

I am now looking forward to finding other pieces of wood to bend.

I have a sufficient planing and smoothing to do for awhile, before planking.

Once the weather warms and drys I also have a lot of precoating to do.

Steaming away

After a vacation hiatus and waiting for the Rockler steamer to arrive I was able to get back to work. Perfect timing as it looks like I will have little else to do while "sheltering at home" for perhaps a month or more...gulp.

First off was gluing down the bottom which went without a hitch.

Then came the stringer which I had originally tried to do without steaming which did not work.

So after picking up a steamer and poly tubing as advised be Bob Wessel I put my first stringer up this afternoon.

This is a little fitting I fabricated to make the connection with the tubing

The stringer is in place with the poly still on, tomorrow I will pull it off and then make sure it is dry before gluing. The three more I have to do should go a little quicker than the first.
